TYPES OF DARK SPOTS
In MELINE, we know that different types of skin discolorations are triggered by different factors and located at different skin layers. For this reason, we offer to our customers tailored solutions according to the type of discoloration and part of the body affected.
MELASMA

Melasma is a common skin condition characterized by the development of gray or brownish patches on the face. These patches are often irregular in shape and can darken with sun exposure.
Melasma is usually triggered by hormonal changes, such as those during pregnancy or while taking contraceptives and exacerbated with sun exposure. It affects more women than men and commonly appears on facial areas, such as cheeks, forehead, bridge of the nose, and upper lip.
LENTIGO

Solar lentigo, also known as age spots, are well-defined dark spots that can range from light brown to black.
Lentigo or lentigines (in plural) develop due to chronic sun exposure, being directly linked to sun damage and photoaging. Although hey are painless, they can make the skin look older and uneven. Age spots generally appear on the face, hands, forearms, and décolleté.
POST-INFLAMMATORY HYPERPIGMENTATION (PIH)

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation occurs when skin inflammation triggers an excess of melanin production.
It is commonly associated with skin conditions like acne, eczema, or dermatitis. PIH can naturally resolve or persist, in which case a depigmenting treatment may be necessary. It is more common in dark skin tones as they tend to produce more melanin. To prevent PIH, it is crucial to shield injured skin from sun exposure.
DARK CIRCLES

Dark circles, medically referred to as periorbital hyperpigmentation, manifest as dark patches or shadows beneath the eyes. The skin in this area is thinner than in other parts of the face, making signs of aging and photoaging more noticeable here.
Dark circles have multifaceted causes, including fatigue, nutritional deficiencies, genetic predisposition, hormonal imbalance, sun exposure, aging, etc. Regardless of the trigger, they tend to be more prominent with age.
